Dr Stephen
Hodgson, PhD, MSCP
Steve is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire Physiotherapy
Ltd. and also as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University
where he teaches on the undergraduate and post graduate courses. He has been
qualified as a physiotherapist for 14 years. His main area of interest is in
the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders with an emphasis on movement dysfunction.
Steve has recently undertaken his PhD in the rehabilitation of shoulder fractures
and has published extensively on this area. He lectures at both national and
international conferences. Steve also provides physiotherapy for Sheffield Rugby
Union Football club.

Karen Bird, MSc, MCSP
Karen is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire Physiotherapy
Ltd as well as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University
and now Leeds Metropolitan University where she teaches on the undergraduate
and post graduate courses. She has been qualified as a physiotherapist for 17
years. Her main area of interest is the treatment of neurological conditions
including Stroke, Multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury and Parkinsons
disease. Additionally she works at the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre based
at Catcliffe, Rotherham.
As part of her role at the clinic Karen provides physiotherapy to the South
Yorkshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre and is also involved with the Sheffield
Strokes Group (support group for their patients and carers).

where she teaches on the undergraduate and post graduate courses. She has been
qualified as a physiotherapist for 15 years. Her main area of interest is in

qualified as a physiotherapist for 20 years. Her main area of interest is the
treatment of neurological conditions including Stroke, Multiple sclerosis, traumatic
brain injury and Parkinsons disease. Jackie has completed her PhD in stroke
rehabilitation.

Helen is a senior physiotherapist working in the NHS and also at Hallamshire
Physiotherapy Ltd. She has been qualified for 6 years. Her main area of interest
is in the musculoskeletal field and she specialises in the treatment of vertigo
and balance problems.

Alison Macfarlane, MSc, MCSP
Alison is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire Physiotherapy
Ltd. and also as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University
where she teaches on the undergraduate and post graduate courses. She has been
qualified as a physiotherapist for 20 years. Her main area of interest is in
the rehabilitation of sports injuries. Alison has completed her MSc in Sports
injuries and is actively involved with many sports teams within Sheffield.

Rachel Young, MSc, MCSP
Rachel is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire Physiotherapy
Ltd. and also as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University
where she teaches on the undergraduate and post graduate courses. She has been
qualified as a physiotherapist for 9 years. Her main area of interest is in
the treatment of neurological conditions and has specialised in neurosurgical
problems. Rachel has completed her MSc in rehabilitation following spinal surgery.

Matthew Withycombe, BSc (Hons),
MCSP
Matthew qualified in 1997 from the University of Birmingham and specialises
in the treatment of sports injuries and other musculoskeletal conditions. He
gained valuable post graduate experience working in New Zealand and Australia
and is currently finishing a MSc in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Sheffield
Hallam University. As a keen sportsman with interests in running, adventure
racing and triathlons, Matthew understands the problems that athletes face.

Emma Richards MSc MCSP
Emma is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire Physiotherapy
Ltd, and also works as a clinic specialist practitioner in neurology at Barnsley
primary care trust. Emma qualified in 1990 and has worked extensively specialising
in treatment of neurological conditions both in hospital and the community.

John Brinkley
John qualified as a physiotherapist in 1998 from Sheffield Hallam University.
He currently works as a senior clinician in the NHS leading a team of physiotherapists
working in a purpose built neurological rehabilitation centre.
John also works part time at Hallamshire Physiotherapy Ltd.specialising in the
treatment of adults with neurological problems.

Rivca Swinson
Rivca trained at the Sheffield Hallam University and qualified in physiotherapy
in 2001. She spent 2 years at York district hospital, before going to work in
New Zealand. This gave her invaluable experience in stroke rehabilitation and
orthopaedics. Her main area of specialty is shoulder and neurological rehabilitation.

Emma Dove BSc
(Hons), MCSP
Emma is a senior physiotherapist working in the NHS on a neurorehabilitation
unit and also at the Hallamshire Physiotherapy clinic. She has been qualified
for six years. Her main area of interest is in the treatment of neurological
conditions including traumatic brain injury, stroke and multiple sclerosis.

Ruth Newsome MSc MCSP
Ruth qualified in 1992 from Leeds Metropolitan University and specialises in musculoskeletal outpatients with spinal pain being her special interest. She also works as an Extended Scope Practitioner with the Orthopaedic spinal consultant surgeons at Northern General Hospital.
She completed her MSc in manipulative physiotherapy and has presented her work at the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, the World Physical Therapy Congress in Canada and the British Orthopaedic Association. She received the Robert Williams International Award from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in 2007.
Darryn Marks BSc (Hons) MSc MCSP MACP
Darren is currently working as Consultant Physiotherapist in the NHS and also a clinician at Hallamshire Physiotherapy. He has an Honorary Visiting Fellowship at Sheffield Hallam University involved in post graduate education and research. Darren has been qualified for over 13 years and his experience is extensive.
He has worked in with elite sports teams including the Australian Institute of Sport. Darryn’s main area of interest is in the treatment and management of general and complex musculoskeletal disorders. He is also involved in advanced physiotherapy practice areas such as injection therapy, prescribing and diagnostics.

David Nolan MSc
David graduated with an MSc in Physiotherapy from Leeds Metropolitan University. His main interests are in treating musculoskeletal disorders through movement analysis.
David is a keen runner himself and has a special interest in treating running injuries. He also has a diploma in sports massage which he uses to keep athletes performing well and preventing injury.
