Dr Stephen Hodgson, PhD, MSCP
Steve is a Director of Hallamshire Physiotherapy and has worked as a clinician and lecturer for over 20 year and is a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University. He completed his PhD in the rehabilitation of shoulder fractures and has published extensively on this area. He lectures at both national and international conferences. His main area of interest is in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders with an emphasis on movement dysfunction and has a keen interest in the treatment of chronic pain and has strong links with Dr Paul Murray at the Chronic Pain Unit in Sheffield. As part of his interest is nerve pain, he has been invited to be a member of the advisory panel of the Neuropathy Trust.
Karen
Hodgson, MSc, MCSP
Karen is a Director of Hallamshire Physiotherapy as well as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at Leeds Metropolitan University where she teaches on the undergraduate and post graduate courses. She qualified as a physiotherapist in 1987. Her main area of interest is the treatment of neurological conditions including Stroke, Multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury and Parkinsons disease. Additionally she co-ordinates the physiotherapy service at the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham.
Karen has recently introduced an exercise class for people with Parkinsons disease, in conjunction with the local branch of Parkinsons UK, to the clinic.
Karen provides additional continuing professional development training to local clinicians and also has a role as external examiner for the MSc Physiotherapy programme at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
Dr Jackie Hammerton, PhD, MCSP
Jackie is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire
Physiotherapy Ltd. and also as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy
at Sheffield Hallam University where she teaches on the undergraduate
and post graduate courses. She has been qualified as a physiotherapist
since 1984. Her main area of interest is the treatment of neurological
conditions including Stroke, Multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury
and Parkinsons disease. Jackie has completed her PhD in stroke rehabilitation.
Helen Morewood, BSc (Hons), MCSP
Helen is a senior physiotherapist working in the NHS and also at Hallamshire
Physiotherapy Ltd. She has been qualified since 1997. Her main area
of interest is in the musculoskeletal field and she specialises in
the treatment of vertigo and balance problems.
Alison Macfarlane, MSc, MCSP
Alison is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire
Physiotherapy Ltd. and also as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy
at Sheffield Hallam University where she teaches on the undergraduate
and post graduate courses. She qualified as a physiotherapist in 1984.
Her main area of interest is in the rehabilitation of sports injuries.
Alison has completed her MSc in Sports injuries and is actively involved
with many sports teams within Sheffield.
David Lomas, MCSP
Dave is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire
Physiotherapy Ltd. and also as a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy
at Sheffield Hallam University where he teaches on the undergraduate
and post graduate courses. He has been qualified as a physiotherapist
since 1991. His main area of interest is in the treatment of musculoskeletal
conditions.
Matthew Withycombe, BSc (Hons), MCSP
Matthew qualified in 1997 from the University of Birmingham and specialises
in the treatment of sports injuries and other musculoskeletal conditions.
He gained valuable post graduate experience working in New Zealand
and Australia and is currently finishing a MSc in Musculoskeletal
Physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University. As a keen sportsman
with interests in running, adventure racing and triathlons, Matthew
understands the problems that athletes face.
Emma Richards MSc MCSP
Emma is currently working as a private practitioner at Hallamshire Physiotherapy Ltd, and also works as a Senior lecturer in neurology at Sheffield Hallam University. Emma qualified in 1990 and has worked extensively specialising in the treatment of neurological conditions both in hospital and the community settings. Emma has worked for many years within the field of neurology and is currently undergoing training to become a Bobath Tutor in the UK which will enable her to teach nationally on post graduate courses in the Bobath Concept.
Rivca Swinson BSc (Hons)
Rivca trained at the Sheffield Hallam University and qualified in
physiotherapy in 2001. She spent 2 years at York district hospital,
before going to work in New Zealand. This gave her invaluable experience
in stroke rehabilitation and orthopaedics. Her main area of specialty
is shoulder and neurological rehabilitation.
Ruth Newsome MSc MCSP
Ruth qualified in 1992 from Leeds Metropolitan University and specialises
in musculoskeletal outpatients with spinal pain being her special
interest. She also works as an Extended Scope Practitioner with the
Orthopaedic spinal consultant surgeons at Northern General Hospital.
She completed her MSc in manipulative physiotherapy and has presented
her work at the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, the World
Physical Therapy Congress in Canada and the British Orthopaedic Association.
She received the Robert Williams International Award from the Chartered
Society of Physiotherapy in 2007.
Darryn Marks BSc (Hons) MSc MCSP MACP
Darryn is currently working as Consultant Physiotherapist in the NHS
and also a clinician at Hallamshire Physiotherapy. He has an Honorary
Visiting Fellowship at Sheffield Hallam University involved in post
graduate education and research. Darryn has been qualified since 1993
and his experience is extensive.
He has worked in with elite sports teams including the Australian
Institute of Sport. Darryn’s main area of interest is in the treatment
and management of general and complex musculoskeletal disorders. He
is also involved in advanced physiotherapy practice areas such as
injection therapy, prescribing and diagnostics.
David Nolan MSc
David graduated with an MSc in Physiotherapy from Leeds Metropolitan
University. His main interests are in treating musculoskeletal disorders
through movement analysis. David is a keen runner himself and has
a special interest in treating running injuries. He also has a diploma
in sports massage which he uses to keep athletes performing well and
preventing injury.
Mark Adams, MCSP
Mark is currently working as a private practitioner
at Hallamshire Physiotherapy Ltd as well as a senior NHS physiotherapist
with the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis service
for South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.
He teaches on the post graduate pain management module at Sheffield
Hallam University. He qualified as a physiotherapist in 1990 and his
main area of interest is the management of long term conditions including
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, fibromyalgia and
chronic pain.
Alison Bourne MA (Cantab) BSc (Hons)
MCSP
Alison is currently working as a Private Practitioner
at Hallamshire Physiotherapy and is also the Lead Senior Physiotherapist
in Women’s Health at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Alison has been
qualified for 11 years and specialises in the treatment of Women’s
Health Problems. She sits on the Expert Panel for babycentre.co.uk
and regularly writes articles on incontinence and pregnancy care for
the site. Alison has recently developed a new treatment technique
for pelvic pain during pregnancy and will be trialling this as part
of a PhD from September at Sheffield Hallam University. Alison was
the first physiotherapist to evaluate the use of a new on-line pelvic
floor assessment questionnaire (ePAQ) and has recently introduced
the use of this to the practice.
Gemma Morgan, BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy
Gemma is a specialist Speech and Language Therapist working in the
NHS and at Hallamshire Physiotherapy Ltd. She has been qualified for
5 years and works mainly with people who have speech and language
difficulties following a stroke. Her main areas of interest are Dysphasia
and Dyspraxia.
Debbi Rowley, BSc (Hons), MCSP
Debbi qualified as a physiotherapist from Sheffield Hallam University
in 2001. Debbi currently works as an advanced physiotherapist at Sheffield
Children’s Hospital, and has a large amount of experience of working
with children and adults with neurological conditions. Debbi is currently
undertaking her MSc at Sheffield Hallam University.
Elaine Scott
Elaine qualified in 1986 at the Grampian School of Physiotherapy and gained her MSc at Sheffield Hallam University in 2003. She specialises in Neurological Physiotherapy with a special interest in Spinal Cord injuries as she was Superintendent at the Spinal Injury Centre at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield (1993-2004).
Her current employment is as project coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy charity. Elaine has an active research profile and has published in the areas of outcome measures. At Hallamshire Physiotherapy clinic she a specialist in spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
Bhanu Ramaswamy, MSc, MCSP
Bhanu qualified as a physiotherapist in 1988. She is currently working part-time as a private practitioner at Hallamshire Physiotherapy Ltd and at Sheffield Hallam University as Honorary Visiting Lecturer on neurological and professional post graduate courses, and as a researcher. Bhanu is also a qualified Fitness (gym) Instructor.
Her main areas of clinical interest include elder rehabilitation and the treatment of neurological conditions including Stroke and Multiple sclerosis, but she is better known for her national and international work with people with Parkinson's disease. Bhanu retains her input to Parkinson's UK (formerly the Parkinson's Disease Society) writing a column about activity for their quarterly magazine, co-authoring Fact Sheets plus conducts research into Parkinsonism. She continues to act as Project Officer for a clinical interest group of physiotherapists working with older people, through which forum she undertakes Department of Health and other national projects as well as ensuring standards of good practice are disseminated to physiotherapists working with older adults.
Alison Shone
Alison has been working as a physiotherapist within the NHS since 2000 and has recently joined the neurological team at Hallamshire Physiotherapy. Her main interests are the rehabilitation of people with neurological conditions and long term. |
